WHAT TO EXPECT
Commonly Asked Questions
What to Expect on Your First Visit
If you’ve never been to a chiropractor, you might have some questions about what to expect on your first visit. Here at Beyond Chiropractic, we want to answer any questions you may have and make you as comfortable as possible with your care. After looking at your paperwork and taking your vitals (height, weight, and blood pressure), we perform an examination. We typically do range of motion, check posture, take reflexes, and do orthopedic testing based on what you’re coming in for. We use this information to come up with a diagnosis and figure out what we need to work on to get you feeling better.
Commonly Asked Questions
What do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors can help with a number of things from back and neck pain, to headaches, and injuries to muscles, ligaments, and joints. Chiropractic care can help boost the immune system, and we treat the whole person through nutrition, exercises/stretches, and lifestyle modifications.
Will the adjustments hurt?
Sometimes there is pain when we push on joints that aren’t moving properly. Usually, it subsides after the adjustment is made. There are different techniques that are gentler and sometimes we use the Activator (“clicker”) on especially tender areas. We also run a massager over the muscles to help with muscle tightness and provide pain relief.
What is the popping sound?
The “pop” comes from gas being released from the joint space with the adjustment and is completely normal.
Can a chiropractor work on things besides my back or neck?
Absolutely! A chiropractor can adjust any joint in the body. That could mean your knees, ankles, shoulders, wrists, ribs, jaw, etc. If you’re not sure, ask us and we’d be happy to see if it’s something we can do to help.
Do insurance plans cover chiropractic care?
Yes. The majority of insurances offer some sort of coverage for chiropractic care and we participate with and accept most insurances. We also have payment options available if you do not have insurance. Contact the office for more information.
Will I get a treatment on my first visit?
Yes. We adjust patients on the first visit as long as there are no extenuating circumstances (like a fracture or an issue we don’t think chiropractic care will help you with). If we do not feel like you would benefit from chiropractic care, we will refer you to another provider or specialist for further evaluation.
Do I have to have x-rays?
No. We do not x-ray all new patients before care. If the exam shows an area of concern or if you are not progressing with care like we think you should be we will refer out for a set of x-rays.
